This study is an interdisciplinary study examining the relationship between the development of depressive symptoms, mobility impairments, and neurological adaptations that occur in people with glaucoma. Testing will include mobility assessments in balance and gait with a focus on sensory integration abilities and psychological and behavioral questionnaires. This study seeks to further elucidate the mechanisms of falls risk in people with glaucoma in order to make recommendations for targeted therapy approaches. For example, if a relationship between emotions, depression, and postural control in glaucoma is found, the current therapy strategies to reduce falls in this population may be improved by including cognitive behavioral therapy techniques such as mindfulness.
