Adults with visual impairments (VIs) face employment challenges, impacting productivity and safety. This NIOSH-funded study aims to assess how VI and lighting conditions affect work performance and posture in older adults. Participants with varying VI levels will perform manual tasks under different lighting conditions. Three aims include evaluating VI’s impact on task performance, assessing lighting effects, and studying how VI and lighting influence work postures. Results will inform hiring practices, reduce musculoskeletal risks related to aging, and design accommodations for an aging workforce, enhancing productivity, well-being, and safety.
