The Human Movement & Balance Lab is collaborating with the Pitt Panthers baseball team to better understand pitching mechanics and reduce injury risk. Using our advanced motion capture system and over 40 wearable sensors, researchers can measure elbow torque, arm speed, body angles, and the timing of each segment in a pitcher’s delivery. This detailed analysis helps identify mechanics that place excess stress on the arm, guiding more effective training adjustments. The project also provides hands-on research experience for students, with upcoming plans to expand our biomechanical analysis to hitters.
